According to sportsmedicine.com, your resting metabolism rate will be higher for up to a few hours after lifting weights if you train hard.
“A number of recent studies suggest that vigorous weight lifting exercise may elevate calorie burning above usual resting values for several hours after exercise. However, the average person at the gym who rests for several minutes between sets of exercise will likely not experience a prolonged elevation of postexercise energy expenditure.”

Question by Unknown: What is a good dietary plan for weightlifting?
I am weightlifting and I am just wondering what is a good diet. I know eating healthy is almost 60% of what you want to look like.
Best answer:
Answer by tacoop
High protein, healthy fats, fiberous carbs.
This is about all I eat. Make sure that every meal has 30-40 grams of protein in it, some healthy fats such as nuts, oil oil, or avocado, and some fiberous carbs such as broccoli, asparagus, or spinach.
Building muscle is about taking in more calories than you burn and losing bodyfat is about burning more calories than you take in.

Question by jackevans630: Does anyone know where to find good weightlifting workouts?
Can someone direct to a place where I can get some good weightlifting tips ,workouts, and steps. I use to workout years ago but just recently just got back into it so can someone help me out please?
Best answer:
Answer by Erik J
Ok.
IntenseMuscle.com is the place. The owner of that is named Dante. He has his own routine plan he devised and it is praised highly among experienced weight lifters. Google DC training or DoggCrapp. He is truly the man at lifting with his plan.
he also has his own protein site: TrueProtein.com, with great prices. CRJ777 will save 5% off the order.
So check out the forum. They will know much more than me, and are very knowledgeable.

Answer by 2cents
Try: http://www.menshealth.com/men/fitness/muscle-building
They have tons of routines especially for beginners that can get you started.
Weightlifting + protein is the general formula for gaining muscle. But there are plenty of non-weight toning exercises that strengthen muscle. Exercises like lunges (can be done with or without weight), push-ups, sit-ups (and hundreds of other abdominal exercises), and tricep dips just to name a few.

Question by Mitch: What degree would I need to become a weightlifting teacher at a highschool level.?
I want to be a weightlifting teacher and ultimately a football head coach. I need to know the minimal amount of education I would need to be accepted for a job like this.
Best answer:
Answer by yamking7
It’s possible that you wouldn’t need a degree at all.
If you have coaching experience, you could apply for the assistant coaching position and go from there. Once you’ve been there a few years and they get to know you, when the head coach position becomes available, you could apply for it.
Some schools want the coaches to also teach at the school, but many schools hire folks just to coach and they don’t need degrees at all just to coach.
If you got a personal fitness training certificate, it would help you to become a fitness trainer/weightlifting teacher.

Question by Dwight Howard is awesome: How does weightlifting make your muscles bigger?
I mean like how does it work. I started weightlifting last year, and I was just wondering how does it work? I know it has something to do with tearing muscle fibers or something.
Best answer:
Answer by Quietscherin
The muscle fibers tear and then the body creates more to repair the tear making the muscles bigger. Thats why muscles hurt after exercise.

Question by Constantine: What are the advantages and disadvantages to weightlifting and bodybuilding?
And no I’m talking about using steroids or becoming a professional bodybuilder. Just as a hobby of sorts, weightlifting and bodybuilding on the side.
Best answer:
Answer by Han Gook
Ugh… Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. There are phases of bulking, cutting which is a pain in the butt. Bodybuilders are extremely serious about their training. Not to say weightlifters aren’t, but body builderes follow their training like a code of life.

Lifting weights builds muscle but burns little calories. Cardio work-outs are clearly the thing to do if you’re trying to lose weight.
